Bittersweet Goodbye

It is with great sadness that we announce the departure of our wonderful library director, Anne (aka Ana). During her time at Hekab Be, Anne has opened up a world of new programs and adventures, as well as her heart, to the children of Akumal. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect blend of skills in one person to take on the very difficult and demanding position of running Hekab Be. Anne not only did it well, she did it with grace. She will be sorely missed.

Here is her departing message to all our library supporters and friends:

It is with a heavy heart that I have made the decision to move back to Indiana to be closer to my Mom and my family. I have worked with, learned from, and loved the children and families of the Akumal community for several years now and it has changed my life forever for the better.
Fortunately for Hekab Be, the perfect person appeared about 6 months ago when she started volunteering her time to work with our children at the library. Marietta Marroquin is warm, loving, dedicated, and ready to take on the leadership role in this next chapter of Hekab Be’s story.

I know that you all will support her as you have supported me, and believe me I won't be far away!

Please take to heart Anne's plea for your continuing support. Although we are changing directors, our important work of bringing education, in all its forms, to the children and families of Akumal remains our primary mission.

So many thanks to everyone who helped us
achieve our mission in 2014!

Wishing you all a very happy and safe holiday season,

And a very Happy New Year!

P.S. If you plan on visiting HB over the Holiday break, please see our reduced Holiday hours below.

Anne you are such a Treasure! Your energy and love of the kids is amazing. It was a great honor to meet you last July on the first day of summer school! ;-) Chaotic and lots of fun... and the BEST Part of my trip to Akumal. You have left permanent footsteps in the sand of Akumal and have touched the lives of so many @ Hekabe Biblioteca... Your mom should be very proud of her wonderful daughter and the goodwill you have spread throughout the Akumal area....God Bless...
