Here's a little information about what we've been up to recently, about what your generous donations help us achieve at Hekab Be:

Just one month ago we wrapped up our most successful summer program in several years. With over 70 children registered, “EXPRESS YOURSELF!” was a huge hit! The children enjoyed activities in photography, art and music history, creative movement, cooking, soccer, yoga, theater, literacy development, and much more! We were extremely fortunate to have several special guest teachers from the United States as well as local speakers and visitors.

Please help us to continue this momentum and enthusiasm with our children and families in Akumal as we start off the 2014-15 school year. We are recreating our partnership with the Francisco Sarabia Primary School in the pueblo of Akumal, and will be collaborating on reading, theater, and nutrition projects. Other exciting partnerships in the works are penpal activities with students in other countries, an art show with the artists of the Akumal International Artist Residency in October, and improvements to our classrooms and outdoor areas. We will continue the cooking and photography classes as the children enjoyed them immensely, and the lovely ladies from CEA visit us each Friday with a fun activity to share!

Hekab Be’s annual operating budget is less than $20,000. This pays the salaries of our staff, our monthly bills, and supplies. We receive no financial assistance from any government for our programming, and we provide all of our activities and services to the children and families of Akumal at no cost to them.

We are reducing our fundraisers to 3 times a year, so we can put more effort into reaching a few sizable and predictable goals throughout the year.

Our goal for this fundraiser is $6,000 US to pay staff and to help cover our on-going operating expenses.

We wish each and every one of you the best of luck, and thank you so much for helping us yet again to keep the doors of the Hekab Be open.
