Some of the Hekab Be regulars, hamming it up for the camera on Dia de los Niños.
In Mexico not only do they celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day, but also the day of the child, celebrated on April 30th.
We at Hekab Be think this is great, since every day is children's day at the library! Every day our doors are open for kids to come learn and nearly every day they win prizes-- school supplies, toys, books, etc. Of course, we couldn't do this without all the wonderful library friends who bring these items down for Akumal's kids!!
For day of the child this year we had a soccer match across the street on the playing field. Afterwards the kids were treated to jamaica punch and goody bags. Most children also had celebrations in their school as well as a town-sponsored party, so it was almost like Christmas for them.
We think children's day is a great tradition, but we also think it's important to remember that children should be honored and respected every day of their young lives, and this is what we strive to do at Hekab Be.
