Story time at the Akumal Kindergarten

As part of our Fall programming, Hekab Be staff are doing a story time in all three of the kindergarten classrooms and in the first and second grade classes at the elementary school. This is the first time that we've been able to regularly have contact with younger children (ages 3-6) and you can see by the look on their faces how engrossed they are in the story. We're very happy to finally have this program in place!

Also in the works is an after school program for an hour a day to be taught by Carlos, with an accompanying drop-in for homework help led by DIana. The after school program will focus on content relevant to what the kids are learning in school, and already we've had one successful meeting with the elementary school principal who is eager to support the program. Topics will include reading and writing (of course), history, math and the environment. If you or someone you know runs an after school program and has ideas to share, please drop us a line!

P.S. Our wish list has been updated with requested gifts for the annual Christmas party-- check it out!
